Everything You Need to Know About the Words That Win Business Writing Training Programme

Dara Lawlor -
Business Writing Training Dublin

Words That Win is a training programme that teaches you and your team how to write clearly and with impact.

As it’s a significant investment in time and money I’ve created this blog post to help you understand everything you need to know before buying it.

I want you to have all the information at hand so that you can make the right choice.  So this article is an unbiased look at Words That Win to make sure it’s right for you.

From the call centre to the c-suite people in business struggle to get their message across.  Nobody is going to pay attention and take you seriously if what you’re writing isn’t clear.

Words that Win  is my way of helping my clients make more of an impact when they have to use the written word to influence people.

The programme explores the following areas among others:

1. Clear writing: The process

2. Purpose and messaging

3. Understanding and writing for your audience

4. Structure and design

5. Techniques for cleaning up a writing style

6. Reviewing and editing

Absolutely.  There’s no point in me covering areas where you’re already up to speed.  If you have carried out a recent training needs analysis that will also help.

The training programme is right for you if you are suffering from all or a number of the following problems:

1 You are continually addressing issues related to unclear or ineffective communication

2. There is a lack of professionalism in your employees’ written communications

3. There are embarrassing mistakes in written documents due to grammar and spelling errors

4. There is no consistency in writing style across all company communications, such as emails, reports, and memos

5. Your employees write long and confusing documents

6. Your employees struggle with email etiquette: i.e. – when to use formal language, how to structure emails, and how to address recipients appropriately

7. Your proposals have no impact, and you are not winning any business

8. Your employees are unable to respond professionally and empathetically to customer inquiries and complaints

Words That Win is for anyone involved in business-to-business communications such as content providers, business development teams, bid managers and business owners with little or no communications support.

This is NOT for you if:

1. You want a quick fix approach and are expecting your team to write as well as Stephen King or J.K. Rowling from the word “Go”

2. You or your team are unlikely to realistically produce content for internal or external consumption and put what you learn into practice

3. You want to give your team a bit of entertainment.

The length of the programme depends on your training needs and requirements.

It usually takes two half-day sessions to deliver the training in person.

In a virtual set up it can typically be delivered in a series of six 90-minute sessions – once again this varies depending on your requirements.

In person: Up to 12 participants.

Virtual: Up to 12 participants.

I, Dara, will be delivering the training.   I’m an experienced bid specialist and I’ve worked as a management consultant for nearly 20 years.  I train and support business development teams to improve their performance across the entire commercial cycle in order to increase their win rates. I’m also a trained executive coach and help senior managers and executives transition into and perform in very challenging environments.  As a keen sportsman I get a kick out of performing as well as I can, whatever the circumstances.  I provide my clients with the environment and tools that helps them find their form. My vision for them is that they win by taking responsibility for their own success.

If you consistently apply what you learn you can expect the following results over time:

1. You will improve the quality of your internal communications and reporting

2. You will enhance the clarity of messaging for your clients and stakeholders

3. You will reduce the risk of your organisation being embarrassed by careless internal and external communications

4. You will boost your brand and image through improved sales and marketing materials

5. You will increase your win rates in procurement competitions.
